Charakterystyczne jednokabinowe lokomotywy Re 450 powstały w latach 1989 - 1997 specjalnie dla obsługi kolei podmiejskiej w Zurychu. Zbudowano 115 sztuk, mają prędkość maksymalną 130 km/h i moc ciągłą 3200 kW. Najczęściej kursują ze składami 3-wagonowymi, nieraz takie zestawy (lokomotywa plus 3 wagony) są łączone po 2 lub 3.
