Osobliwością kolei dojazdowej South Shore jest kilkukilometrowy odcinek uliczny w mieście Michigan City, połozonym 65 km na wschód od Chicago. To pozostałość po czasach gdy linia ta bardziej przypominała podmiejski tramwaj, tzw. interurban - później, analogicznie jak WKDka, powoli przepoczwarzała się w "prawdziwą" kolej. Od wielu lat mówi się o skasowaniu tego odcinka i poprowadzenia torów skrajem miasta, ale jak na razie sprawa rozbija sie o brak funduszy.
